On the afternoon of October 10, the Shishi Association of Fujian Shishi celebrated its tenth anniversary with a special event titled "Innovation Industry, Prosperity Market – Cross-Strait Cooperation and Textile Fabrics Summit." Organized jointly by the China Textile Information Center, the National Textile Product Development Center, and the Shishi Municipal Government of Fujian Province, the summit brought together experts from both sides of the strait, including representatives from the China Textile Information Center, the National Textile Product Development Center, and Taiwan’s Textile Extension Association. Industry leaders, textile professionals, and scholars gathered to discuss how to build a more competitive textile and apparel industry in Shishi and achieve long-term sustainable development.
During the forum, participants shared insights on product innovation, cluster development models, market strategies, and future trends. Li Binhong, Director of the National Textile Product Development Center, delivered a keynote speech highlighting the evolving landscape of textile products. He emphasized the importance of aligning product innovation with current global trends and corporate culture, offering forward-looking guidance for enterprises aiming to stay ahead in a rapidly changing market.
Dr. Chen Jinlai from the Taiwan Textile Extension Association analyzed the shifting global market and provided valuable perspectives on how Shishi’s textile industry can leverage its strengths to gain a competitive edge. He discussed the current state of the industry, its challenges, and potential growth areas, offering practical recommendations for sustainable development.
Professor Chen Bangwei from Shanghai Textile University presented an in-depth analysis of the Shishi textile and garment industry during the financial crisis, sharing his views on building a strong cluster model and enhancing innovation-driven competitiveness. His insights were particularly relevant as the industry looks to adapt and thrive in a dynamic economic environment.
Xie Fangming, Director of the Product Division at the National Textile Product Development Center, spoke about industrial R&D trends, national policies, brand development, and marketing strategies in advanced economies. He shared successful case studies and best practices from the global textile sector, providing Chinese enterprises with actionable knowledge to improve their product development and market positioning.
Over the past decade, the Shishi Fabric Association has played a key role in driving the growth of the local textile and garment industry. This period has also reflected the broader development of China’s textile sector. Through close collaboration between the two sides of the strait, Shishi’s textile industry has significantly improved its capabilities and competitiveness.
China is currently undergoing a crucial transformation from a major textile producer to a leading textile power. The industry now faces three historic opportunities: globalization, technological advancement, and sustained economic growth. To seize these opportunities, textile companies must shift from labor-based advantages to innovation-driven growth, from resource-dependent models to sustainable development, from environmentally unfriendly practices to eco-friendly approaches, from outdated industrial structures to modern, efficient systems, and from disorderly markets to more stable and fair market environments. These five transformations are essential for the industry’s future success.
