"The Earth · Our Family - Children's Eyes Look at the World" Exceptions 2010 Spring Green Action Call!

Earth is no ordinary planet! For 4.54 billion years, it has evolved everything, and life emerged 3.7 billion years ago. Humans appeared only 200,000 years ago. We often call this blue planet our home, but how much do we truly understand about it? Scientists believe that the use of tools was the most important step in human history. From that moment on, humans began to reshape their environment at an exponential rate, advancing civilization and altering the Earth at a staggering pace. In just the past 50 years, human activity has changed the planet more than in the previous 200,000 years combined. Our home is under threat: rivers are drying up, resources are vanishing, glaciers are shrinking rapidly, temperatures are rising, climate patterns are shifting, forests are disappearing, and species are going extinct. Tick... tick... tick... There's no time for despair. But we still have 50% of the rainforests left, and Mount Qomolangma still stands as a silent witness to the world. What matters now is what remains of us. Let’s join hands, open our hearts, and take action—“Exceptional” 2010 Green Action officially begins! The first step is to see the world through children’s eyes. In collaboration with the Guangzhou Yuexiu District Children's Palace, the “Earth • Our Home” children’s art competition was held. Under the guidance of teachers, young artists and their parents watched an environmental documentary titled “HOME,” which revealed the beauty and fragility of our planet. Through the children’s innocent eyes, the Earth was seen in a new and unfamiliar light: vibrant volcanic landscapes, wild elephants running freely, roaring waterfalls, distant prairie fires, and a child’s eye showing the pain of hunger. These little eyes opened up a deeper understanding of the world. The kids shared their thoughts: “The Earth is our home. We should love nature, not litter. We should love each other, not go to war. We must protect the environment.” With their brushes, the young artists painted the world they saw: the Earth like a cotton cake, a green tree bearing fruit, a sea turtle swimming in the ocean, robots fighting against birds and elephants, windmills and trees covering the land, and people and animals holding hands. Their artworks will be displayed at the Spring 2010 Extravaganza under the theme “Earth • Our Home – The Eyes of the Child.” Though simple and pure, these paintings speak directly to us: the choice to destroy or save our planet lies between you and me.
