"The Earth · Our Family - Children's Eyes Look at the World" Exceptions 2010 Spring Green Action Call!

Earth is no ordinary planet! For 4.54 billion years, it has been evolving everything, and life began 3.7 billion years ago. Humans appeared only 200,000 years ago. We often call this blue planet our home. Scientists believe that the use of tools was the most significant step in human history. From that moment on, humans began to improve their living environment at an exponential rate, develop civilization at a rapid pace, and reshape the Earth at an astonishing speed. According to data, humans have changed the Earth more in the past 50 years than in the previous 200,000 years. Our home is being damaged: rivers are drying up, resources are running out; glaciers are shrinking rapidly; temperatures are rising; climates are becoming unpredictable; forests are disappearing, and species are going extinct. Tick... tick... tick... There's no time for despair. We still have 50% of the rainforests left, and Mount Qomolangma continues to watch over the world. What matters now is what we have left—our choices, our actions. Let’s join hands, hearts united, and start the “Exceptional” 2010 Green Action right now! The first step is to see the world through children’s eyes. The "Earth • Our Home" children's art activity was co-hosted by Guangzhou Yuexiu District Children's Palace. Under the guidance of teachers, young artists and their parents watched an environmental documentary called “HOME,” which showed the beauty of our planet. Through the children’s eyes, the blue planet was seen in a new and unfamiliar way: vibrant colors of a dead volcano, wild elephants running joyfully in the grass, roaring waterfalls in the forest, a distant prairie fire from a war, and another little eye revealing the pain of hunger. With innocent eyes, the children saw the Earth and felt the world with kind hearts. They said, “The Earth is our home. We should love nature, not litter. We should love each other, not go to war. We must not pollute the environment.” The young artists used their brushes to paint the world they saw: the Earth looked like a cake-like cotton field, a green tree bearing fruit, or a sea of green turtles swimming in the water. They painted birds and elephants fighting robots, and windmills and green trees covering the Earth, showing people and animals holding hands. Next, the artworks of these young painters will be displayed at the Spring 2010 Extravaganza, titled “Earth • Our Home – The Eyes of the Child.” These pieces may be tender, perhaps naive, but they speak directly to us: the choice to continue destroying or saving our Earth lies between you and me.
