Heiner Rivers, Pursuing Excellence

Haipai jade carving is one of the four schools of jade carving in China. It was formed in the late 19th century and early 20th century. It has a strong influence in contemporary jade carving art. The real contribution of the Haipai jade carving is Hainer and fine craftsmanship. Its Haina all-inclusive, painting, sculpture, calligraphy, stone carving, folk shadow and paper-cut, contemporary abstract art. As long as it is beautiful, as long as it is good, but not far from the original point, the Haipai jade carving can be absorbed, and it is valuable that Hainer is still slim after digestion.

Frankly speaking, interviewing the two heavyweight representatives of Hai Pai, Ni Weibin and Yan Biwei, is a rather uncomfortable thing. The two jade carving masters are unique in character, sharp in their views, and do not follow the usual rules. Ni Weibin, known as the “father of jade carving”, criticized the jade carving industry for valuing money as not a culture, and Xie Fengwei, known as “Chinese and Western style”, declared that his inheritance and pursuit has always been China’s traditional aesthetics. In their dialogue with them, their dialectical thinking about the Shanghai-style jade carvings and their forward-looking vision of the entire jade carving industry made people feel their active thinking and broad vision.

Ni Weibin, one of the first jade carving masters in China, and the top domestic jade carving designer, has navigated the development of the jade sculpture market in Shanghai and even China in the past 20 years. He has trained a number of renowned jade carving masters in the industry. Ni Weibin focuses on inheriting and transcending traditions. She does not deliberately pursue pure jade and craftsmanship. Instead, she uses her artistic approach to fully express feelings on the spiritual level.

Yi Wei, formerly known as Yan Wei, national jade carving master. In the Shanghai-style jade carving industry, he is one of the few artists who use the jade card as the main artistic expression. He pursued the poetic expression of Chinese artistic conception and the Chinese aesthetic thought of “intention to draw outside” while accepting the collision and communion of ancient art carriers and modern art expressions.

Reporter: Talk about what you understand the Shanghai school jade carving.

Ni Weibin: The Shanghai School of Jade Sculpture is a school of jade carving with a local style centered on Shanghai. The innermost heart of Shanghai people is more delicate, and the craftsman pays attention to details, and the things they do reflect the character of the southerners. They are clean and meticulous.

Relying on the Wei: Shanghai school jade carving is not only a regional culture, but also a cultural phenomenon, that is, the sea culture. Shanghai-style jade carving combines the advantages of various places, with advanced, leading and fashionable, technology and innovation in front of the entire industry. Yang Hao in Suzhou is also quite innovative. I also attributed him to our Shanghai jade sculpture.

Reporter: What kind of themes are selected by the Shanghai School of Jade?

I have introduced natural scenes of contemporary women, landscapes, and figures in jade carvings, and lived scenes such as violins and playing pianos. These are my themes of creation.

Reporter: What are the advantages of Shanghai-style jade carving?

Ni Weibin: Shanghai was once a Western settlement and it is easier to accept Western things. Haipai jade carvings absorbed the structural advantages of sculptures and paintings in the West, such as the Statue of Liberty, Venus, and Mona Lisa, into the traditional jade carvings. The composition of Shanghai's figures is better, including stoves, and they will be more lean and in line with modern aesthetics. Shanghaiers dare to do it, dare to try boldly, are open-minded, can absorb good things from others, and lead the country's jade carving industry in terms of craftsmanship and technology.

Relying on Wei: On the one hand, we use Western art for reference and use a large amount of modern composition on the composition, including photography; on the other hand, we inherit Chinese tradition, not according to the paintings, but inherit its aesthetic spirit and aesthetic thinking. . Tradition is a kind of accumulation and it is also the core.

Reporter: What kind of influence does the geographical advantage have on the Shanghai school jade carving?

Relying on Wei: Shanghai has more cultural exchanges than other places because of its unique geographical advantages. The width and depth of ideology are different from those of other places. As an international metropolis, Shanghai is more open in its thinking and vision. Shanghai has always been a place full of competition, and truly talented people can develop here. I once said to my friends that Shanghai is the "land of adventurers."

Reporter: Why do you think that the Shanghai-style jade carving can be so prosperous?

Relying on Wei: Regardless of whether it was before or after the liberation, Shanghai paid great attention to the protection of the jade carving industry and absorbed a large number of talented people throughout the country. Even during the period of **, the jade carving industry was protected. The government attached great importance to the successors and established a school of arts and crafts. When I was 14 years old, I entered the Shanghai jade carving factory, and I was targeted as a cultivator since childhood. There is also that the development in the economic field has created a good market and a good competitive environment for the pursuit of the art field. The economy has reached certain conditions, people will begin to look for a spiritual sustenance, love of jade is a good sustenance.

Reporter: What are the shortcomings of the current Shanghai school jade carving?

Ni Weibin: Shanghai School jade carving focuses on "work" rather than "art". Technology relies on craftsmanship, and art relies on culture. Due to the advancement in science and technology, the Shanghai School of Jade Art has indeed improved a step in technology. However, many so-called masters still remain at the level of artisans, and their culture and ideas are not enough. Therefore, the era of creating art has not arrived yet.

Reporter: What do you think about the development of the jade carving industry?

ç¿Ÿ ç¿Ÿ ç¿Ÿ ç¿Ÿ: The development of jade carvings in these years is still very fast. Now everyone has a quest for his own work. Whether it is from the craftsmanship or innovation, the whole jade carving industry is also progressing this decade.

Ni Weibin: The commercialization of the entire industry is too high. The economy has always been driven by the economy. Next, it should be the culture that drives the economy. Jade is the cornerstone of oriental culture and the renewed Chinese culture cannot be separated from this stone.

Weiguai and Haipai jade carving

“Yi Shaoyong is very personal and pursuing perfection. The carved works are elegant and luxuriant; Wu Desheng's works are mutated and insolent, and the sculpted women are feminine and graceful and elegant; the works of Yan Yiwei are full of thick Jiangnan breath. Many sculptures of small bridges, mountains and rivers, Buddhas, and far-reaching artistic conception...” All along, the curator of the jadeite jades of the nobles are very appreciative of the Shanghai-style jade carvings, and there are a lot of Wu Desheng and Yi Shaoyong in the halls of the nobles of Yufang. The works of the Shanghai-based jade carving masters such as Yu Yu, Yu Yiwei, and Cui Lei. The stranger told reporters that “the most difficult thing for the Shanghai-style jade carving is to push new ideas, dare to think about it, and not stick to conventions.”

The elegant curator of Yufang is an idiot.

What is the idiot?

The stranger had been holding sand in scores of times. In Hetian, Xinjiang, taking advantage of local cakes, he kept guarding the scene of digging jade and waited for Yu to come out. Every time the old geek tanned back home black and thin, see his wife even shouted "distressed." If the old man took a fancy jade, he would stare at this collector and he would have been tied to the collector to send him jade.

Foolish people have a blessing. At the Baihua Awards Exhibition in May 2010 in Yangzhou, the stranger met Yi Shaoyong, a famous Shanghai native who was known as the “Chinese jade carving calligraphy first knife.” He talked with Yi Shaoyong about the culture of jade, the market trend of jade, and Jade's love has been talked to until four o'clock in the evening, and she feels tired. Yi Shaoyong used Hetian Moyu to sculpt a razor and landed “Scorpio for personal use”, which means “reborn,” and he always wears it. Yi Shaoyong alias "Scorpio", this razor was originally carved for his own hands, from each point of view are round and perfect, slick luster, but he was the curator for the elegant Yufang reluctant to cut love . Yi Shaoyong thinks that the obsessiveness and obsession of jade is not something that the average person can match. To send such a gift to him means to “rebirth” with him.

The stranger said that the people playing jade are divided into three levels. The primary person is jade and the intermediate person picks and chooses. The advanced person does not play. The so-called gourmet is either a very good original stone or a masterpiece of heavenly craftsmanship.

In the old monster's opinion, a good carving job is like giving a woman who has an original appearance, applying lipstick and applying powder, watching people stunned.

For jade, a good carving artist applied a touch of rouge to the beauty of the pixel and raised the simple beauty to an intoxicating beauty.
