Rotonde de Cartier Astrotourbillon celestial tourbillon 9451 MC movement

Cartier is a Rotonde de Cartier Astrotourbillon oscillating tourbillon watch equipped with a brand new movement designed and manufactured by brand watchmakers. This exquisite movement is uniquely creative and technologically superior. It was developed over five years by the Manufacture de la Chaux-de-Fonds.

The 9451 MC is equipped with a tourbillon frame that includes an escapement system and a balance spring system.

Like the traditional tourbillon, the frame is driven by the third gear of the gear train. Similarly, the pinion of the escape wheel rotates around a fixed second hand gear (the fourth gear in the gear train) to drive the entire escapement system.

This exquisite tourbillon, also known as the Astrotourbillon oscillating tourbillon movement, is also unique in its own characteristics.

First of all, this frame rotates around a specific axis, because the axis is located in the center of the movement, so from the barrel of the movement to the minutes and the clock display adopts a different drive system design than the ordinary gear transmission system.

Secondly, the appearance of the Astrotourbillon oscillating tourbillon wristwatch is unique. The axis of the balance wheel and the axis of the escape wheel do not coincide with the axis of rotation of the frame, but they are located in the center of the dial in line with the frame.

Finally, the tourbillon frame is placed “above” the movement, between the two dials, rather than being embedded in the movement like a traditional tourbillon.

This subtle tourbillon structure is completely different from an ordinary tourbillon and is a perfect combination of aesthetic design and superb craftsmanship. Visually, the flat frame runs around the center of the dial every minute. The arrow-shaped tourbillon frame is off-center and indicates seconds. Technically, in order to ensure the balance of the framework, a platinum weight block is loaded at the other end of the frame and hidden under the center dial. In addition, in order to counteract inertia when the frame rotates, the weight of the frame must be limited (not including the platinum balance weight, the entire frame weighs only 0.39 grams), which is why the choice of titanium to create the tourbillon frame.
